Editorial standards
Nutrition writing on the internet is noisy. These are the rules we use to keep the NakedCalorie knowledge base useful, boring, and honest.
Sources
Every claim traces to at least one of: peer-reviewed literature (PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science); international bodies (FAO, PAHO, WHO); regulators (EFSA in the EU, FDA in the US, FSANZ in Australia and New Zealand, Food Standards Agency in the UK); reference databases (USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts); or the NOVA decision-rule paper (Monteiro et al., 2019).
We prioritize systematic reviews and meta-analyses over single studies, and we say so when a claim rests on observational evidence, on a single trial, or on mechanistic plausibility rather than direct clinical data.
Authors and reviewers
Articles are written by the NakedCalorie editorial team and medically reviewed by a registered nutrition professional before publication. The author byline and the reviewer's name (with credentials) appear on every article and link to a full profile.
Review cadence
Every knowledge-base article is re-checked every six to nine months, and immediately when a major systematic review or regulatory change is published. Every page carries a visible Last reviewed date.
Corrections
When we're wrong we say so and fix it. Substantive corrections appear at the top of the affected article with the date of the change. Typographical and stylistic edits are silent.
Independence and disclosures
NakedCalorie's revenue comes from subscriptions to the app. We do not take money from food manufacturers, supplement companies, or diet-programme sponsors, and no third-party ever reviews or approves knowledge-base copy. If we describe a product, we say who makes it and why we're mentioning it.
Scope limits
Everything in the knowledge base is educational, not medical advice. Anyone managing a diagnosed condition or taking medication should follow their own clinician's guidance rather than what they read here.
